Kershaw continues streak in LA by Scott Farrell Comment (0)
Clayton Kershaw continued his roll through the May schedule with another dazzler Sunday, allowing one run with a three-hitter without, according to him, having his best stuff working.

It was another great start for the HP-ex following eight scoreless innings he pitched last Sunday against Colorado. That win started what is now a six-game LA win streak.

"To be honest, my command wasn't that great tonight. I guess you could call it effectively wild," Kershaw said. "I didn't hit a whole lot of spots. I really just had a fastball but made the best of it. I think it's something all pitchers need to do to keep your team in the game. You won't have your best stuff every night, but the good ones find a way to get a win when you don't have your best stuff."

LA manager Joe Torre said Kershaw's outing "wasn't sensational, he was just very businesslike out there" while minimizing the damage to one run in the first inning, when he allowed the first two batters to reach base. Kershaw struck out seven, walked two and made 110 pitches.

"He keeps it together and doesn't unravel," said Torre. "For a kid his age (22), it's remarkable. It's fun watching him grow into his ability."

B-Track/Field: Todd 6th at state by Scott Farrell Comment (0)
Philip Todd placed sixth in the 1,600-meter run Friday night in Austin at the UIL Track and Field Championships. The HP senior ran a 4:23.08 time, which was nine seconds off the winning pace. Todd was second in the mile to Tyler Chappell of Cleburne at the Region II-4A Championships two weeks ago, but beat him at state by seven seconds and two places in the standings.

The one team point earned by Todd left HP tied for 55th place in the team standings. Lancaster blew away the field with 72 points. Angleton was second with 38 points.

Todd leaves HP as one of the most decorated distance runners in school history. His final high school race came on the same track where he'll start his college career at The University of Texas next fall.

Here are the final results from state:

UIL Championships
May 14 at Mike Myers Stadium, Austin
1,600 Run

Kershaw earns first win, finally by Scott Farrell Comment (0)
Helped by LA's offense and a big lead, Clayton Kershaw finally got  a win as the Dodgers won 9-5 over Arizona. Amazingly, the ex-HP hurler had not been credited with a win since July 18 in a season where the Dodgers won the National League West pennant and played in the NL Championship Series.

Despite being 1-0 after one start in 2010, Kershaw wasn't happy with his performance seven strikeouts and giving up only three hits through his 5 1/3 innings of work. He walked five and gave up two runs, both earned.

"I didn't pitch very well, obviously. I'm happy we got the win, but I'd rather they win because of me, not in spite of me," said Kershaw. "I'm not hard on myself, I just call it like I see it. I beat myself today, that's all there is to it."

B-Basketball: 2010-11 schedule set by Scott Farrell Comment (0)
Head coach David Piehler upgraded the HP boys basketball schedule for next season, adding a game against Class 5A playoff team Southlake Carroll and switching the Scots' annual holiday tournament from the Dallas ISD/Coca-Cola Tournament to the Plano Tournament that is stacked full of Class 5A and 4A teams.
The annual Scot Classic will be from Nov. 18-20, 2010, and HP will return to the Burkburnett Tournament on Dec. 9-11 for a fifth consecutive season.
Those are the major changes to the upcoming schedule. HP is continuing its series with TCA-Addison, Cedar Hill, Richardson and Ennis as well. The District 10-4A schedule opens with a road game at Wylie on Dec. 21, and the Scots play three of their final five district games on the road.

B-Golf: Scots win state by 13 strokes by Scott Farrell Comment (0)

AUSTIN - The boys golf team reclaimed the state title it lost her last year with a decisive victory. The Scots' 13-stroke win is one of the largest in its impressive history. HP has won 9 of the last 11 UIL state titles after shooting a team-best 303 today after a 309 yesterday. Charlie Ewing and Case Thornton appear to be among the top 10 individuals, although the scoring is still unofficial while a second-place team playoff continues. Ewing shot a 1-over-par 73 today to finish at 149, and Thornton was also 1-over to finish at 152.

We'll have full coverage of the golf championships tonight on the home page.

Kershaw wins pitching duel by Scott Farrell Comment (0)
(taken from MLB.com)

Clayton Kershaw, always regarded as an ace in the making, outdid an ace who has already arrived Sunday in a 2-0 Dodgers win over the Rockies.

Kershaw matched his career high with eight innings and was every bit as dominant as the Rockies' Ubaldo Jimenez, who entered the game with a win in each of his six starts, a 0.87 ERA and a no-hitter already thrown on the season.

"You're sort of a little shy about saying that Kershaw outpitched him, because Jimenez pitched one [heck] of a game today," LA manager Joe Torre said. "In order to beat a pitcher like that, you have to be able to just stay with him."

After allowing just two hits and three walks, Kershaw told Torre he wanted to try to go the distance as the Dodgers batted in the bottom of the eighth inning. Kershaw had retired the last nine in a row and struck out nine in the game.

"I said, 'I'm sure you do, nice going,'" Torre said.

Even without the complete game, Kershaw earned only his second win in his last 18 starts.

B-Golf: Scots lead after first round by Scott Farrell Comment (0)

HP endured windy conditions to outlast a competitive field in the first round of the UIL Golf Championships in Austin. The Scots led after 18 holes with a 309 team score (21 over par), six shots ahead of Montgomery. The rest of the top six teams - Austin Lake Travis (316), Boerne Champion (319), Fort Worth Arlington Heights (320) and McKinney (321) - are all within 12 stokes.

Play resumes Tuesday at the Jimmy Clay Golf Course, and HP will be teeing off between 9 - 9:50 a.m. tomorrow.

Individually, Richard Kalteyer is tied for third at three-over-par 75, with Charlie Ewing one shot back but also in the top 10 tied for seventh. Michael Crites and Case Thornton are each tied for 17th after carding 79's, and Marshall Perry completes a tight HP fivesome with an 80, tied for 20th.
