Volleyball: Scots return to state poll by Scott Farrell Comment (0)

HP endured another tough non-district haul over the weekend at the Pearland Tournament outside Houston. The Scots (16-8) went 5-2 at the tournament, reaching the final 16 of the championship bracket after winning their Division 11 pool over two Class 5A teams and a state-ranked 4A team.

For their efforts, HP return to the Texas Girls Coaches Association state rankings, which list the Scots at No. 9 this week, one spot ahead of Dripping Springs, which it beat in pool play at Pearland. HP was ranked by the TGCA in the preseason, but fell out following the Duncanville Tournament and has been absent for the past three weeks.

District 10-4A mate Richardson Pearce tops the rankings this week after winning the Pearland Tournament. That should make for some great matches when the two teams meet in two weeks (Sept. 15) at Pearce and Oct. 9 at HP. Among other teams in the poll, HP beat No. 7 Hereford at the Justin Northwest Tournament, but has losses to No. 5 Friendswood and No. 6 Red Oak.

Here's this week's poll:
1. Richardson Pearce
2. Canyon Randall
3. Austin Lake Travis
4. Schertz Cibolo Steele
5. Friendswood
6. Red Oak
7. Hereford
8. Frisco Liberty
9. HP
10. Dripping Springs
11. Brenham
12. Schertz Clemens
13. Magnolia
14. Canyon
15. Boerne Champion
