Volleyball: HP stays at No. 7 in state by Scott Farrell
It's not whether you lose or not, it's who you lose to that determines most of the state rankings in volleyball. Or so it appears in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association state poll. HP stayed at No. 7 in this week's poll after a 4-2 finish at the Byron Nelson Classic. The two losses came to No. 3 Magnolia, which debuts in the poll and claims two of HP's five losses this season, and No. 4 Friendswood.

Austin Lake Travis, which dominated the field at the Nelson Classic, remains the top-ranked team. Richardson Pearce stayed at No. 2 after a strong showing at the Allen Open. Pearce, No. 6 Red Oak (which HP swept to start the season) and HP are the only Region II-4A teams to receive votes this week.

The tough competition doesn't stop for the Lady Scots (11-5), who host Flower Mound Marcus and McKinney Boyd at Highlander Fieldhouse in a double-dual starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Marcus is ranked No. 9 in this week's Class 5A state poll.
