HP owes Mansfield Timberview a favor.
Timberview won the girls' state track and field title with 86 points yesterday, more than doubling runner-up Lancaster's 41. That's relevant to HP fans because Timberview snapped Lancaster's eight-year hold on the Class 4A title, giving HP the distinction as the only school to have won nine consecutive state championships in any UIL sport.
The Lady Scots' swimming and diving team won its ninth straight title earlier this year. Whether it adds to its count next year or not, the Blue Wave will own the record for at least another three years since there are no other current streaks at seven or more.
Here is the updated historical list of consecutive multi-year state champions, with HP owning two of the top six spots complete through the 2008-09 school year:
