Football: Title games at Cowboys Stadium by Scott Farrell
Dallas, uh, make that Arlington, will host the UIL state championship football games in December, as the UIL made it official today that the Class 5A-3A title games will be played at Cowboys Stadium. The 2010 season marks the first time all conference championship football games will be played at a pre-determined location. The Class 2A and 1A games will be played down the road in Mansfield, and the six-man title games will be in Abilene.

The UIL's goal is to rotate the sites of its state championships games among Texas' three premier facilities - Cowboys Stadium, Reliant Stadium in Houston, and the Alamodome in San Antonio. Reliant and the Alamodome have hosted the Class 5A title games since the UIL went to a single-site for 5A in 2006. The UIL tried to have the 5A games at Cowboys Stadium last year, but a college basketball game between Texas and North Carolina was already scheduled.

For HP's purposes, the Class 4A Division II game is at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17. The 4A Division I game is at Noon on Saturday, Dec. 18. HP is likely to be in the Division II bracket as the sixth-largest school in District 10-4A in terms of enrollment.

"We're excited about hosting great high school football games at some of the premiere venues in the state," said UIL director of athletics Cliff Odenwald said in a news release. "We look forward to working closely with all the venues in creating a first-class championship experience for the schools, fans and students involved in the games. We are so grateful to be able to create an incredible experience for our student-athletes."

If any area teams advance to the title games, the state record for one-game attendance could be threatened. The 1977 Class 4A title game between Plano and Port Neches-Groves owns the record when 49,953 filed into Texas Stadium.
