| Football: Scots roll on in 7-on-7 by Scott Farrell |
The scene at Jesuit Prep School on Monday afternoon looked just like a regular HP football practice, minus the helmets, and the pads, and the field turf, and a handful of coaches working inside the huddles.
Instead of 90 or so players crammed onto one field, four teams of seven players fit well onto two 45-yard fields for another round of 7-on-7 work. HP had the bulk of its skill-position players on hand for the third week in the four-week June schedule.
HP beat Bishop Lynch, lost to W.T. White on the final play, and tied Jesuit in this week's set of three 25-minute mini-games. Each team plays the three others each week. No results or standings have been kept.
"We asking them to be up at the weight room two hours a day, four days a week, and then they're out there doing 7-on-7 on Mondays, so there's plenty of football going on right now," HP head coach Randy Allen said.
The Scots will close their 7-on-7 league next Monday, June 28, back at Jesuit. The mini-games begin at 6 p.m. Allen said HP has not played in any other 7-on-7 state-qualifying tournaments this summer.
