HP tuned up for the postseason with another dominant run Saturday, taking second place in a 5A-based Rick Neil Memorial Meet in Lewisville. The Scots scored 56 points, behind only Flower Mound in the 12-team Class 5A Division. HP's team in the Class 4A Division also placed second behind Frisco.

 

Natalie Rathjen had her string of four consecutive wins broken, but the freshman settled for second place in 11:04 in the 85-runner field under pleasant conditions at Lake Park in Lewisville. Jenna Read took third in 11:22 as the Scots' 1-2 punch continues to perform at the highest level. 

 

Mary Beth Hamilton edged into the top 10 in 11:56, and Madeline Crank (12:21), Laura Rathjen (12:30) and Laura Bassel (12:48) each crossed within the top 40 runners. Kelly Taylor was 43rd overall just three seconds behind Bassel in 12:51.

 

The Scots prepare for the postseason and the District 10-4A Championships at Wylie. It will be a morning run for HP on Thursday, Oct. 28, with the varsity races beginning at 10 a.m. 

 

In the 4A race, Maddie Weakley led the way for HP in the 153-runner field in ninth place in 12:31, with Julie Parma (16th, 12:42), Paige Jubinsky (22nd, 12:47) and Katie West (24th, 12:49) each in the top 25. Adele Elder and Madeline Bruner were 34th and 36th, respectively, and Cassidy Tanner crossed in 58th place in 13:23.

 

The JV Scots won their race going away with a perfect score of 15, and placed nine of the race's top 10 runners. Anne Leopard won against a field of 165 runners in 13:22, one second ahead of Piper Vaughn. Catherine Williams took third, followed by Ellen Elder, Meredith Scudder, Lollie Ogden, Megan McDermett (eighth place), Anne Marie Bullington and Makenna Kallman in the top 10.
