It's getting to be playoff time at Highland Park. The trees around the Park Cities will soon be decorated with yellow ribbons, and fans are beginning to discuss alternate plans for Thanksgiving weekend with the expectation of the Scots still playing. HP is one of 26 teams within Region II-4A that have clinched playoff spots heading into the regular season's final week. The Scots know they will play in the Class 4A Division II bracket, along with five other teams - South Oak Cliff, Corsicana, Seagoville, Hillcrest and Mesquite Poteet - that know their placement within the bracket at this point. District 9-4A Summary: Frisco Liberty, Frisco Wakeland and Frisco Centennial have clinched. Three others are in contention for the final playoff spot. Big Game(s): Carrollton Creekview plays Carrollton Smith to see who has the upper hand on the final playoff spot. Smith is in with a win, but a loss makes it wait for tiebreakers to unfold via other results. Creekview can get into the playoffs with a win but needs help. A Liberty win over Frisco would then have tiebreakers decide who advances among Smith, Frisco and Creekview. Frisco can clinch without any tiebreakers with a win over Liberty plus a Creekview win over Smith. Who Goes Where in Playoffs: Liberty (9-0, 6-0) will be the top seed in Division I only if Frisco also qualfies. Otherwise, it is the top seed in Division II. Pearce is not assured of clinching a playoff spot with a win, but most likely with earn a spot based on favorable tiebreakers. If McKinney North (5-4, 3-3) qualifies, it will be the second seed in Division II. If McKinney (4-5, 3-3) qualifies, it could be in three different postseason seeds. It will be in the Division I bracket only if either Rockwall or Wylie don't qualify - as the top seed if Rockwall qualifies and Wylie doesn't, or as the second seed if Wylie qualifies and Rockwall doesn't.
