Written by Scott Farrell    Saturday, 12 September 2009 00:27

COPPELL (Sept. 11) -- HP took its first loss of the 2009 season against Coppell. Some of the highlights, despite the loss, include senior quarterback Luke Woodley's 366 passing yards, one of the highest totals in school history. Here are some other highlights and notes from the Coppell game:

* HP's loss to Coppell was its first in the eight-game series between the former district rivals. The Scots have given up 41 points to Coppell the last two seasons after yielding only a total of 40 in the first six games combined. Other news and notes follow:

* Luke Woodley’s 366-yard passing night was the second-highest total of his career, but also came saddled with not throwing a touchdown pass for the first time in his 15 varsity starts. It was his 12th 300-yard game, and he has thrown for at least 300 yards in his last four starts.

* Woodley’s 70-yard completion to Chris Hipps in the second quarter was the Scots’ longest play of the season, leading to his career-high 164 yards. Hipps' 11 catches were the most by an HP receiver in one game in the last three seasons.

* HP has now lost its last two games on the KXTA-Channel 21 Game of the Week. The Scots lost at Rockwall-Heath in overtime to close the regular season last year.

* HP punted four times against Coppell after entering the game with only three punts on the season. Jake Howeth’s 65-yard boomer in the fourth quarter was HP’s longest punt of the season.

* Take away two sacks against Woodley and three errant center snaps that are registered as team rushes, and HP's rushing total would have been 21 rushes for 68 yards.

* The Scots failed to score 30 points for just the second time in their last 32 games.

* HP had not lost a non-district game since falling to Denton Ryan to start the 2004 season in the Tom Landry Classic. The loss snaps a 20-game non-district win streak.
