HP prepared for another run at the team tennis state championship on Friday by winning the District 10-4A Championships at the HP Tennis Center. The Scots, the state's top team, swept past Wylie East and Rockwall to reach the title match, then disposed of McKinney North 10-1. North was the second-seeded team and is ranked No. 12 in the state in the latest poll. North beat Richardson Pearce 10-6 in the semifinals, taking Pearce out of the playoffs for the first time in more than 30 seasons. The Scots (17-0, 7-0) have won six of the last seven UIL Championships. Their next stop is the Region II-4A Championships next weekend, Oct. 29-30, at Grapevine High School. HP is sure to be the top-seeded team at the regional tournament, which does not follow the usual UIL playoff format but has the coaches seed the top four teams instead with the others going into a blind draw. HP is the top-ranked team team in the state. Regional challenges will likely come from No. 8 Frisco Wakeland, No. 10 Texarkana Texas, McKinney North, No. 14 Ennis and No. 21 Frisco. The opening matches begin at 9 a.m. next Friday. Individual match results were not available from the district tournament. HP entered the postseason with a 14-0 win over Allen, which is ranked No. 21 in the latest state coaches' poll. The UIL Championships are Nov. 5-6 at Lakeway World of Tennis.
