Matt Galvin, Philip Todd and Ben Clapp each scored top-11 finishes Saturday to help HP place second competing up a class in the Class 5A Division at the Stallion Stampede. It was another top showing for the Scots, whose 68 points fell behind only 5A power Flower Mound Marcus, which ran away with the championship with 27 points. Galvin continued his impressive start to the season by taking fifth overall in 16:16, followed a few steps behind by Todd in sixth at 16:21. Clapp got under the 17-minute mark in 11th place in 16:57. All seven Scots runners in the 5A race placed in the top 50, with Glenn Wolfe in 20th in 17:31, Connor Hayward taking 29th, Brandon Shirk in 36th and Ben Glasgow in 47th. "It was another great week for the Running Scots. Their hard work and team effort continues to propel our team against top competition," Scots coach Randy Adair said. "Hats off to Flower Mound Marcus and their outstanding 5K times. They are a very good team with incredible coaching. We benefited greatly by running against (Marcus) and the other top teams. "Congratulations to senior captain Matt Galvin for winning the weekly Top Scot Golden Spike Award," Adair continued. "He ran a fine race, making very smart racing decisions on the 5,000-meter course. He is a disciplined and dedicated athlete who will continue to run fast times." HP took sixth in the Class 4A Division with its second team led by Davis Bateman crossing in 18:33. Sam McEntire (26th) and Campbell Sode (29th, 19:13) led the rest of the HP runners, who placed in a pack between 32nd and 44th places. The Scots' junior varsity placed fifth in its race led by Brandon Brownlee in 21st with a time of 19:21. The Running Scots have a week off before competing in what should be a District 10-4A championship meet preview at the Wylie Invitational on Sat., Sept. 25. The course will be on the same fields that will host the 10-4A Championships next month, which should attract the rest of the 10-4A teams.
